About One Drop Radio
The One Drop is a rhythm that is characterized by the dominant snare drum stroke and bass drum kick both sounding on the third beat of every measure in 4/4 time, while beat one is left empty. The style is unique Jamaican music culture. The sound is unique, solid, and the sound is clean, leaving relatively large open musical space for improvisation.
The one drop is the basis of Jamaican music culture. Though not all reggae rhythmns are technically one drops; they all are based loosely on the one drop.
One Drop Radio is a weekly one hour long podcast that is loosely based on the One Drop rhythmn. Each show focuses on all phases of popular Jamaican culture and Caribbean music culture. Every week listeners rae treated to a wide range of reggae new and old, classic and obsecure. On any show anything from the gruff voice of Buju Banton to the soothing soul of the late great Dennis Brown can be heard. The shows are mixed weekly by DJ Trends from The Rainy Day Records Studio in Brooklyn, NY.
